Tennessee's music industry generates $5.3 billion annually, yet recording and performance venues concentrate in Davidson and Shelby counties. Rural residents therefore encounter fewer opportunities to participate in therapeutic music programs that leverage local musicians or existing studio infrastructure.
Implementation Requirements
Applicants must locate at least 60 percent of workshops in counties outside the four largest metropolitan statistical areas and must secure venue commitments from county health departments or cooperative extension offices. Equipment budgets are limited to portable instruments; permanent installations require documented multi-year site agreements. Unlike Kentucky applications, Tennessee requires alignment with the state's existing 18 certified community behavioral health clinics to ensure referral pathways remain within the TennCare network. Quarterly outcome reports must use validated scales already approved by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
