STEAM Camps for Low-Income Students in Tennessee

Tennessee faces a critical challenge in cultivating the next generation of innovators, scientists, and technology leaders. Despite the state's growing technology and advanced manufacturing sectors, many low-income students, particularly in rural areas, lack access to high-quality STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education and enrichment opportunities. This disparity threatens to exacerbate existing achievement gaps and limit economic opportunities for underserved youth.

Studies have shown that early exposure to STEAM subjects and hands-on learning can have a profound impact on students' academic engagement, problem-solving skills, and future career aspirations. However, resource-strapped school districts often struggle to offer robust STEAM programming, especially in the face of competing priorities and budget constraints.
